Souvenirs or mementos are objects bought on holidays or kept as a sign of a person, place, or event. The word souvenir comes from the French word for memory. A few years later, it took on the meaning of a sign of a special event or experience. A souvenir as a physical object can take different shapes and functions. The objects known as souvenirs range from food to materials, cultural artifacts, postcards, or various market-produced mementos. They include pottery, painting, calligraphy, rugs, carpets, etc. These objects have one thing in common. They act as marks of somebody having visited a location or an event that is not expected and thus worthy of being remembered. For example, if you travel across Iran, you will get back home with excellent handicrafts as souvenirs for your family and friends. When tourists buy Persian rugs or carpets, they take a part of Iranian art and culture to their homelands.
